Super Mario World: Complete Guide

Frequently Asked Questions/Help

This is the Complete Super Mario World Guide by me, Cat333Pokémon. Of course, right now it is not complete as it takes time to develop such a site. For instance, I have to collect images from both the Super Nintendo and Game Boy Advance versions of the game, requiring me to complete both 100%.

Q: Why did you make this guide?
A: I made this guide because, while there are many quality FAQs and walkthroughs, very few contain images or simple link-based nagivability. Many existing ones are available only in plain-text, and I wanted to make one that is easy to read, use, and tell whether or not what you just did in the game was what the guide intended.

Here is a good example of why images can assist the player. Say a guide for a given game says "In the following room, take out the first enemy. Then proceed to wait for the second enemy to walk through the gap in the wall to the switch." What if the game has memory issues and fails to show the first enemy (a common problem in numerous NES games)? Then the player will defeat what would have been the second enemy--the one needed to press the switch! Given imagery, the player could have seen that the first enemy appeared right near where they entered the room, not the second one that was on the other side of the room.

Q: What are the differences between the SNES and GBA versions?
A: Super Mario World for the SNES is identical to the version in the Super Mario All Stars + Super Mario World bundle, except that the latter has four save files while the former has three and that Luigi's sprites are slightly different in the latter.

Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World has slightly altered physics. In the original, if any Mario form is hit other than small Mario, he instantly becomes small Mario. This is changed in the remake; instead, given that Mario has either the Feather or Fire Flower, he shrinks to big Mario. There are also some sound changes and some slight level redesigns. Excepting the Switch Palaces, all levels have Dragon Coins, not just a select few; some even have more than five. The game can also be saved at any time, which includes more data such as lives, levels with Dragon Coins collected, and time played. These are just some of the differences between the Super Nintendo original and the Game Boy Advance remake.

These differences in the guide are marked by "(SNES)" and "(GBA)" for the respective sections.

Q: Will you create a guide for any fan-made hacks like Super Demo World 2: The Legend Continues
A: There is a slight possibility I may make a guide for Super Demo World 2. However, I don't currently have any intention on creating guides for hacks other than SDW2: TLC.

Q: Is this guide available for download or printing?
A: The guide will be available to download when it is completed. For now, you can view the completed portions online at http://smw.buizel.net. A plain text version may also be available in the future, but it is not a high priority.

As for printing, simply click the Print button in your browser. Then you can use the guide if you don't have a computer near your television while playing the game!
